Side-entry doors vs. overhead doors
The side service door is a standard exterior door and should have a real Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt, not just a knob lock. Overhead doors are different — automatic openers offer some protection, but manual overhead doors need a T-handle lock or slide lock so they can't be lifted. We recommend the right approach for each door in your garage.
We also strongly recommend a deadbolt on the interior door leading into the house, so even if someone reaches the garage, they can't easily get inside.
